Wind Speed / Wind Velocity Sensor – Three Cup Anemometer

A three-cup anemometer designed for measuring wind speed and wind velocity in meteorological and environmental monitoring applications.
The EMCON Wind Speed / Wind Velocity Sensor is designed for meteorological and environmental observations where accurate measurement and long-term stability are important. The sensor uses a three-cup anemometer with infrared pickup to measure wind speed. With its low power consumption, the sensor is suitable for remote monitoring installations and can be connected using long cables for remote and centralized measurements. Its water-splash- and dust-resistant construction enables operation in demanding outdoor environments. The sensor provides a digital pulse output and supports wind-speed measurement up to 60 m/sec, making it suitable for meteorological, agro-meteorological, architectural, civil/structural, and climate-control applications.

Wind Speed / Wind Velocity Sensor

The EMCON Wind Speed Sensor is a three-cup anemometer designed for
meteorological observations where reliable wind-speed measurement,
accuracy, and long-term stability are required.

Measurement Principle

The sensor uses a three-cup anemometer with an infrared pickup to measure
wind velocity. Wind movement causes the cups to rotate, and the infrared
pickup generates a digital pulse output corresponding to the measured
wind speed.

Key Features

  • Three-cup anemometer design
  • Infrared pickup
  • Wind-speed measurement up to 60 M/sec
  • Long cable connection for remote measurements
  • Suitable for centralized measurements
  • Wide operational temperature range
  • Water-splash and dust-resistant construction
  • Digital pulse output
  • Compact size
  • Excellent sensor interchangeability
  • Excellent long-term stability
  • Low power consumption

Wind Speed Measurement

The sensor provides a measurement range of 0 to 60 M/sec with a specified
accuracy of ±0.3 M/sec. The equivalent measurement range is 0 to 216 Kmph
with an accuracy of ±1.08 Kmph.

Remote Monitoring

Long cables can be connected to the sensor, enabling remote and centralized
wind-speed measurements. This makes the sensor suitable for distributed
meteorological and environmental monitoring installations.

Applications

  • Meteorology
  • Agro meteorology
  • Architectural studies
  • Civil and structural studies
  • Climate control chambers

Electrical Specifications

  • Power Supply: 12 V DC
  • Output: Digital pulse output

Physical Construction

The sensor has a height of 234 mm and weighs approximately 300 grams.
Aluminum and ABS plastic materials are used for improved durability.

Mounting

The bottom of the sensor contains two threaded holes that allow the unit
to be mounted onto a suitable bracket.

Outdoor Operation

The sensor is designed for long-term operation in hostile weather
conditions. Its water-splash and dust-resistant construction helps
support reliable operation in outdoor monitoring environments.
