The Run-Up Meter / Recorder is designed to measure wave run-up as waves
reach a shore or breakwater. The system records the distance reached by
the water along the sensor and presents the measured information with
respect to time.
The sensor can be aligned with the incoming waves so that the movement
of water across the sensor can be measured during wave run-up events.
The recorded signals are transmitted to a computer through an RS-232/USB
port for display and analysis.
The strip sensor detects the presence of water based on conductivity using
its contact terminals. The sensor is designed to detect water continuously
as the wave moves across the sensing strip.
The system determines the distance reached by the water along the strip.
The corresponding signal is transmitted to a dedicated control unit, which
converts the sensor signal for transmission to the computer.
The Run-Up Meter uses a strip-type capacitance sensor that can be mounted
on the surface where wave run-up needs to be measured. The sensing strip
contains terminals through which the presence of water is detected.
The sensor is designed to be free from anode corrosion caused by electrical
discharge between terminals during continuous operation.
The sensor sends signals to a dedicated control unit. The control unit
converts the sensor signal and provides the information to the computer
through an RS-232/USB port.
The run-up information is presented as distance in centimetres or
millimetres with respect to time, allowing researchers to analyze the
movement of wave run-up during an experiment.
The sensor can be aligned according to the direction of the incoming waves.
As the waves move across the sensor, the system detects the corresponding
change in water position and records the run-up distance.
The sensor is available with standard measurement ranges of 0 to 300 mm
and 0 to 600 mm, with an accuracy specification of +/- 1%. Other ranges
can be provided on request.
The sensor plate is constructed from glass epoxy with a rubber coating.
The sensing strip is designed for mounting on the surface where the wave
run-up measurement is required.
The information from the sensor is transmitted to the computer through
an RS-232/USB port. The computer-based system allows the run-up information
to be presented in relation to time for further experimental analysis.
