The Horizontal Wave Force Sensor is designed to measure and record the
horizontal force generated by wave action at different locations within
a water body. It is particularly suitable for experimental measurements
in wave flumes and hydrodynamic model studies.
The sensor measures the force acting on its diaphragm while the sensor
arrangement is designed to minimize the influence of vertical hydrostatic
pressure. This allows the horizontal component of wave-induced force to
be recorded for further analysis.
The sensor uses a diaphragm exposed to wave action to measure the horizontal
force generated by the movement of water. The sensor is positioned so that
the measured force represents the horizontal component of wave-induced force,
while the effect of vertical hydrostatic pressure is minimized.
The sensor is used to sense and record the horizontal wave force acting on
the sensor diaphragm. The exposed area of the sensor is approximately
9 sq. cm. and is positioned in the wave flume for measuring the force
generated by wave action.
The measured horizontal force is separated from the vertical hydrostatic
pressure through the sensor arrangement. Multiple sensors can be positioned
at different distances along the direction of wave propagation to observe
the decrease or variation in horizontal wave force as waves travel through
the wave flume.
The information obtained from the horizontal wave force measurements can
be used to estimate the force acting on objects in a wave flume. The results
can also provide information that can be extrapolated to actual objects
and structures in coastal and offshore areas.
Several sensors can be positioned at different locations along the direction
of wave travel. This arrangement allows researchers to record the horizontal
wave force at different distances and study how the force changes as the
wave propagates through the experimental setup.
The sensor can be incorporated into a wave force recording arrangement for
experimental studies. The recorded measurements provide basic information
for evaluating wave forces acting on objects and structures subjected to
wave action.
