Tilt Sensor for Towed Body

A sensor designed to measure the tilt or inclination of a towed body during underwater or marine measurement operations.
The Tilt Sensor for Towed Body is a micro-size sensor designed to measure the tilt of a towed body during towing experiments. It measures both sideways tilt and fore-and-aft tilt while being designed not to affect the normal performance of the towed body. The sensor provides heading, tilt and roll measurements within specified ranges and is supplied with a 15-metre cable.

Overview

The Tilt Sensor for Towed Body is a micro-size sensor designed to measure
the orientation and tilt of a towed body during towing experiments.
It is designed to measure sideways tilt as well as fore-and-aft tilt
without affecting the normal performance of the towed body.

The sensor provides measurements of heading, tilt and roll, making it
suitable for monitoring the orientation and movement of submerged or
towed bodies during experimental studies.

Key Features

  • Micro-size tilt sensor
  • Designed specifically for towed bodies
  • Measures sideways tilt
  • Measures fore-and-aft tilt
  • Measures heading
  • Measures roll
  • Designed not to affect normal towed-body performance
  • Suitable for towing experiments
  • 15-metre cable

Measurement Capabilities

The sensor is designed to monitor the orientation of a towed body by
measuring heading, tilt and roll. These measurements provide information
about the position and movement of the body during towing tests.

Applications

  • Towed-body experiments
  • Underwater towing tests
  • Hydrodynamic model studies
  • Towed-body orientation measurement
  • Tilt measurement during towing
  • Roll measurement during towing
  • Marine model experiments

Tilt Measurement

The sensor measures the sideway tilt and fore-and-aft tilt of the towed
body. Its micro-size construction is intended to allow these measurements
to be made without affecting the normal performance of the tested body.

Heading Measurement

The sensor provides heading measurement within the specified measurement
range, allowing the orientation of the towed body to be monitored during
the towing experiment.

Roll Measurement

The sensor also measures roll of the towed body. Roll measurements can be
used together with heading and tilt measurements to study the orientation
and movement of the body during towing.

Sensor Design

The Tilt Sensor is designed in a micro-size form factor suitable for
installation on a towed body. Its compact design helps minimize the
effect of the sensor on the normal performance of the body during
experimental towing tests.

Cable Configuration

  • Standard Cable Length: 15 metres

Experimental Use

The sensor can be incorporated into towing-test instrumentation to
monitor heading, tilt and roll of the towed body. The resulting
measurements can be used for studying the behaviour and orientation
of the body during hydrodynamic experiments.

Monitor up to 32 sensor channels simultaneously, with real-time recording, graphical monitoring and wave-data analysis from a single system.
